Pokemon Generation 3 Starter Manipulation Tool

Post by MKDasher » Thu Oct 01, 2015 10:37 pm

So, since Pokemon Gen 3 Starter Manip is being used more and more, I think it was about time to make an improved tool for this.

This tool allows to both RNG manipulate the starter, and predict the starter's IVs based on the stats (for the latest, click File->IV Predictor).

Included all 386 Pokemon from gen 3 since I already had the information collected for all those and just in case anybody wants to use this on a randomizer lol.

I have a few suggestions to make the RNG manip tool easier to use in runs.

1) Make the "Pokemon Found List" box expandable. If this is already a feature, I'm not sure how to use it. But I'm frequently having to scroll up and down to see all the Mudkips/Squirtles that might be considered, and given how short the resets are, this usually causes me to make a premature decision on which frame to aim for.

2) After clicking "Search Around Frame," keep the cursor on the desired frame rather than resetting it to the top of the list. Every time I use this feature, I have to scroll down a bunch to see the Mudkips/Squirtles I might use.

3) Allow the user to set stat parameters specific to a nature. For example, if Docile, allow 25+ Attack and 25+ Sp. Attack, but if Mild, allow 20+ Attack and 20+ Sp. Attack. I don't want to limit my godly +Sp. Atk Squirtles to only the best Attack IVs, but I do want to limit neutral Squirtles (because those need to have damn good IVs to make the cut).

If this isn't possible or you don't have time, no worries; the program's great as is. :)

As an addition to exarion's post (please don't think this is me moaning this program is fucking amazing):

4) Save/Remember the pokemon, natures and ivs searched for when closing the program, so that its ready to go when you open it next (maybe save them as profiles, for multiple game setups? Not sure how hard that would be to do)

5) When opening the frame-finder window, have it automatically select the pokemon and frame range you're searching for in the main window.

5b) When opening the frame-finder window, allow the main-window to be used at the same time.

Seriously though these are all minor annoyances in a great program~

Is there any way to enlarge this? It's too small for me to properly use. Also, could someone please explain how to use this? XD I'm new to speedrunning, and I have no idea how this thing works. All I know is that it's useful and I need it to craft my perfect Mudkip. >'-'>

You can probably use any available resizer freeware if you need to adjust the window size, is fine for me however.

To set it up it's rather simple:

Step 1) Put in the IVs you wish to manipulate for in the far left set of input boxes (for Mudkip I personally recommend something like this https://gyazo.com/50c0d622e1a3ec6676769f614d7356bb)

Step 2) Tick all of the runnable natures (https://gyazo.com/e056ce064f4e9785f505ab6340bd2aca)

Step 3) Select Mudkip from the drop down menu (https://gyazo.com/7e1e5006a18af7c029321e8abcd64da3)

Step 4) Set your frames (I recommend 8000-9000 https://gyazo.com/8427ca1a34fe03d51f86a2f28420589d)

Now when you are manipulating your Mudkip:

Step 1) Set your LiveSplit time to begin at 1 second (https://gyazo.com/355857010c197aa7a4b5d0168590fa15)

Step 2) Start your timer at the same time you press the 'A' button the select OK for your trainer name (https://gyazo.com/e30cebf8536e15943e8855956f52dc42)

Step 3) As soon as you gain control of your character, open you trainer card (start, your name) and put your trainer ID number (top right https://gyazo.com/cf3a2149e4401a8e3be4220dcaea28f4) into the Trainer ID slot of the application (https://gyazo.com/b092240212aba31f96ac8daec62bb891)

Step 4) A list of available Mudkips will appear. Look for a cluster or if not just a Kip with really good stats. Remember the time of your Mudkip from the Time column (https://gyazo.com/a23f17f73d966899b3e4be0ae14121c1)

Step 5) Complete the basic start to the game, e.g. talking to MOM, going to Rival's house, etc

Step 6) When you're selecting your Mudkip from the bag and get the Yes/No option, wait until your LiveSplit timer reaches the time you found your Mudkip on earlier and press 'A' (Yes) at the exact 0.0167 of a second to hit the frame and get the Kip (not actually as hard as it sounds)

If you need anything else explaining, just drop a reply here.

Okay, so an update, I do have a question: what is the purpose of setting the timer at one second?

It syncronises your timer with the in-game clock so that the time on LiveSplit will match the time RNG Reporter (or this application) produces for the Mudkip, as opposed to having to mentally adjust.
