RNG Manipulating Squirtle

Post by Sfayne » Mon Jul 13, 2015 9:40 am

I did a stream explaining how RNG manip works for Squirtle in Firered. Here's the highlight:

You can dowload RNG Reporter here: http://metareddit.com/r/pokemonrng/

Since English is not my main language I assume the way I explained it might have been a bit confusing by moments so don't hesitate to ask questions about it.

Also, be aware that I'm not one who found how it works (I believe Roushmore was the first one doing it on Emerald, works basically the same in this game).

I completely forgot to post this here.

This is my tutorial for the RNG "Manip" with the links for the tools inside it. It uses EonTimer for an audio cue rather than the visual method.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but I'm having trouble with exactly this. I'm pretty new to twitch and have already streamed a bit of pokemon. This week I thought why not speedrun!? And like a true speedrunner I said to myself "the time is now (lol)." Anyways here are my issues:

I tried setting everything up myself, following the multiple guides I had found, however two days later I have still yet to accurately pinpoint the frame I'm looking for, or even any frame reasonably close to it. I know that it is a very narrow window (1/60th of a second xD) to press button and accept the correct squirtle.. but after two days of doing nothing but troubleshooting all day and losing stream time ( /cry ) I've come to the conclusion that either the program I'm using to predict pokemon by frame, RNG Reporter, is spitting out incorrect data, or that one of the other programs I'm using to make this happen is either out of date or broken.

To hopefully expand upon my problem here are the programs and versions I'm using:
RNG Reporter 9.96.6 BETA
EonTimer 1.6
As far as emulators go, I've tried 3 different versions of Visual Boy Advance; VBA 1.8, VBA Rerecord and VBA-M.
Every piece of software I've tried and failed with I saw another using successfully via youtube, twitch or a few-year-old forum post. I humbly accept and much appreciate any insight/help on this subject ! (sry for wall of text!!)

PS. JP and Sfayne I checked out both of your guides and found them to be helpful! Followed them step by step, so not sure what I'm doing wrong.

[Edit] I'm not opposed to doing speed runs without any tool to assist me but I see a lot of the big guys doing it =D I want to be cool like them.

MKDasher's program is easier to use than RNG Reporter: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=499

However, the timing issue may be related to your emulator, as emulator timings are different than console. I haven't run GBA games on emulator, so hopefully someone else can help you there.

well vba-rr and vba-m have different frame rates. Take the frame of your squirtle and divide it by 59.6554 if you are using vba-rr or 59.8168 for vba-m. That'll be the time u click for squirtle. My testing were done on sapphire so I can't say for sure for FR
