Post by walk » Fri Sep 12, 2014 10:29 pm

outlined list as it stands thanks to contributions so far is below.
to summarize the original text, basically pokemons you use in fights including any decently viable routes.

please give it a skim incase you spot any errors or want to contribute missing information!
need: gold/silver, crystal, fr/lg, hg/ss

Code: Select all

original text:

i was trying to find a general list of this on the wiki but couldnt quite narrow it down. if one exists, could you please point me in the right direction? if not, it would be appreciated if those of you reading this topic and knowledgeable in some routes help me make the list myself.

for example, what i'm looking for is just like:
red/blue: nidoking [red] OR blastoise [blue]
yellow: nidoking
...
ruby/sapphire: swampert, castform, kyogre [sapphire]
...
etc

i don't really care about slaves, but i know in hg/ss you "fight" with a murkrow vs blue's exeggutor to help control the AI. same with lapras vs some gyarados in x/y. those would be ones to include in the list, but things like pidgeys or tailows it might not be worth mentioning. not sure if mons like squirtle would be worth mentioning since you fight with it albeit a super small amount to catch your nidoran?

anyway yeah, if i've explained myself well, can we get a clean list?

1. Go to http://wiki.pokemonspeedruns.com/index.php/FAQ_List
2. Expand desired game in desired category
3. Open FAQ of desired category
4. Expand "Which pokemon do you use in this run?" Question and check for desired answer.
4. If FAQ does not contain answer for the question, I'm actually and legitmately surprised. Go to leaderboards and watch run of the game sparingly to see if there are any main switches.
5. Kappa

Not meaning to be a jerk, but stuff like that is literally the easiest thing you can find on the community websites, so you can easily look on your own if you're that interested.

Kudos to you man ;)

that would be an option, but there's no consistency. for example, the bw2 page documents 2 routes - an "excadrill" route and a emboar route. "excadrill" doesn't exist in the entirety of the faq page for that game. as there is no way for me to confirm what is accurate and what isn't on the faq pages themselves since i do not run every game, i cannot decide for myself whether it was accurate - i only noticed this incosistency for example due to knowing the singular fact beforehand.

as for watching runs, there are multiple routes for each game (WR-viable or not) and if the definition of route wasn't clear enough already, learning each route by watching a single run kind of isn't possible. and that's a lot of time just to see pokemon usage. clicking through it would miss small spots as well.

that is why i posted this simple question to try to get all the information clearly and in one place because it simply does not exist elsewhere. kudos.

Pearl: Chimchar/Monferno/Infernape, Palkia
Platinum: Piplup/Prinplup/Empoleon (Chimchar line might be used in the future)
Black: Tepig/Pignite/Emboar, Pansage, Reshiram
White 2 Excadrill route: Tepig/Pignite, Ducklett, Drilbur/Excadrill
White 2 Emboar route: Tepig/Pignite/Emboar, Ducklett, Terrakion
I speedrun Pokémon Pearl, White 2 and X!

Ducklett is also used in Black for Fly. This is covered in the FAQ for that game, though.

Ruby/Sapphire uses Swampert, Castform and Kyogre/Groudon to fight, Zigzagoon/Poochyena, Tailow/Swablu/Wingul and Abra as slaves.
Emerald uses Swampert, Castform and Rayquaza to fight, Poochyena, Tailow/Swablu and abra as slaves.
And the only other one I know is that X/Y use Chespin, Farfetch'd, Hawlucha and Lucario for fights.

i'm probably going to format it like this (leaderboard categories excluding 151 and E4R2)

Code: Select all

Pokémon Red/Blue
* Any% Glitchless
  - [Blue] Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise
  - [Red] Squirtle, Nidoran♂/Nidorino/Nidoking

Pokémon Yellow
* Any% Glitchless
  - Nidoran♂/Nidorino/Nidoking
* Any% No Save Corruption
  - Pikachu, Gengar
edit: going to put the whole thing in the OP to keep it updated

thank you for confirmation on those! both x/y have fights you can use the legendary in (game forces you to lead with it so its go time in X iirc), and personally i've seen Y have the option to use yveltal for some e4 fights but theres no clear version to use yet as far as i know. maybe i'll list both :)

Why exclude E4R2 and 151? It's still clear in those which are the main pokemon you use :?

Code: Select all

Pokémon Red/Blue
* 151 Pokémon
  - Bulbasaur, Gengar, Ditto? (not sure if you'd class Ditto as a slave or not, it uses transform in battle to perform a certain glitch)

Pokémon Gold Silver
* Any% Glitchless
  - [Gold] Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr
* Any%
  - [Gold] Totodile/Croconaw

Pokémon Crystal
* Any%
  - Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr

Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen
* Any% Glitchless
  - Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise
* Elite 4 Round 2
  - [FireRed] Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise, Zapdos
  - [FireRed] Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise, Mewtwo

Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver
* Any% Glitchless
  - [HeartGold] Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion, Mewtwo
* Any% Glitched
  - [HeartGold] Cyndaquil/Quilava, Raikou
Also for consistency you should change the gen 3 ones to not only have Swampert but instead Mudkip/Marshtomp/Swampert.

true, i think i was originally unsure about the "but no slaves" simplification. however, when i got to glitched categories like yellow nsc, it gets a magikarp. it's neither a slave nor a battler, since its invovled in a glitch, so i've been just going with "if you battle with it, list it".

and thanks for the catch on the gen 3 ones - i was staring at amoeba's post a little too thoughtlessly while copying those over

lol time to list all pokemon used in fights in 151 Kappa.

Bulbasaur, Abra, Gastly/Haunter (to underflow Gengar), Gengar, and Ditto.

Oh, and all the other Pokemon used for the Repel Trick Keepo b.
Jack-Flys are OpieOP.

Blue 151: Bulbasaur, Abra, Mew, Haunter, Gengar, Ditto
Yellow NSC: Pikachu, Gengar (Abra, Magikarp, Rhydon as slaves)
Gold: Totodile, Croconaw, feraligatr (Kenya, Sentret/Bellsprout/Sandshrew, and Poliwag/Poliwhirl as slaves)
Gold Glitched: Totodile, Croconaw. (Kenya, Egg and Bellsprout/Wooper as slaves)
XY: Chespin, Farfetch'd, Hawlucha, Lucario, Lapras and Xerneas/Yveltal (all slaves are used at some point in battle lol)

In 151 Mew is only sent out in battle to switch move order. Haunter is only to kill 1 wild pokemon to underflow Gengar.
151 will also use a level 57 pokemon in m2 cave to have a higher chansey appearance rate, but this has 5 possible pokemon.
XY also gets a Kanto Starter that is never used.
Gold Glitched will use Sprout or Wooper based on Trainer ID route.

Its faster to just evolve the gastly in your party to haunter immediately. lvl 7-8 Pidgey and level 7-8 spearow can live night shade from gastly, while all but lvl 8 pidgey will die to haunter's night shade.

I dunno, I mean you do have to send two other Pokémon out against Charles, but it's not like you fight with them or anything - they're really just there to fill up space. It's a similar situation in Pearl with Bibarel - you send it out in double battles because you have to use something.
I speedrun Pokémon Pearl, White 2 and X!
