Emerald battle frontier.

Post by luckytyphlosion » Sat Apr 26, 2014 12:50 am

Derp. (copypasterino because I want more opinions)
  • I'm planning to use my IN-GAME TEAM in emerald to challenge the battle frontier, and here's what I have as my planned team so far. I'm also playing Level 50, not Level 60/Open Level. Can someone also help me with EV spreads and items (* means Check ev spreads/Items and " means don't really have the item but probably will get one using thief/some bad egg glitch Kappa)? Also don't question natures.

    Mixed Sceptile w/ Overgrow:
    Nature: Serious
    * EV Spread: ??? Atk / ??? SpAtk / 252 Spd
    • Leaf Blade
    • Aerial Ace
    • Dragon Claw
    • Brick Break
    Leaf Blade is main STAB. Flying/Fighting/Grass gives near perfect coverage, and Dragon Claw gives a suitable neutral option to use, as it's more powerful than aerial ace and Brick Break.

    "Bulky" (don't question) Physical Hariyama w/ Guts:
    Nature: Naughty
    EV Spread: 0 HP / 252 Atk / ??? Def / ??? SpDef
    • Brick Break
    • Fake Out
    • Rock Slide/Rock Tomb if not enough battle points
    • Bulk Up/Earthquake
    Fake Out is awesome. Fighting/Rock/Normal has perfect coverage together, but Bulk Up allows to Stat Up and sweep/take physical hits better.

    OR

    RestTalk Hariyama w/ Guts @ Chesto Berry
    Nature: Naughty
    EV Spread: 0 HP / 252 Atk / ??? Def / ??? SpDef
    • Brick Break
    • Rock Slide/Rock Tomb if not enough battle points
    • Rest
    • Sleep Talk
    This set is to mainly abuse guts. The Chesto Berry is to give more turns of staying awake, so you have the freedom of switching moves.

    Maybe I could include a SubPunch Set, but meh.

    Mixed Camerupt w/ Magma Armor @ Quick Claw/Soft Sand/Charcoal:
    Nature: Brave
    * EV Spread: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpAtk
    • Flamethrower/Fire Blast
    • Earthquake
    • Rock Slide
    • Explosion
    Not much to say here. Fire move for STAB, EdgeQuake Coverage and Explosion for teh lulz.

    Special Sharpedo w/ Rough Skin @ King's Rock/Mystic Water/BlackGlasses :
    Nature: Timid
    EV Spread: 252 SpAtk / 4 SpDef / 252 Spd
    • Surf
    • Ice Beam
    • Crunch
    • Endure
    Standard Sharpedo set. Surf and Crunch is STAB, Ice Beam for coverage and Endure to abuse Rough Skin. SpDef EVs probably won't matter.

    Stall Skarmory w/ lol who cares @ Chesto Berry if rest/Leftovers if Counter/Steel Wing or Sharp Beak" if Steel Wing.
    Nature: Brave
    EV Spread: 252 HP / ??? Atk / ??? SpDef
    • Fly (AI is dumb)
    • Toxic
    • Protect
    • Counter/Rest/Steel Wing
    Fly+Toxic is gimmicky, but can work in the Battle Frontier. Counter gives something against Steel Types and Fly with Leftovers adds more turns, while ChestoRest gives a reliable way of recovery, and removes status. Protect is for more trolling.

    Special Magneton w/ what does it even matter lol @ Magnet/TwistedSpoon":
    Nature: Modest
    EV Spread: ??? HP / 252 SpAtk / ??? Spd
    • Thunderbolt
    • Hidden Power Psychic Power ~57 (not breeding for a better hidden power)
    • Thunder Wave
    • Supersonic
And the award for "Most shallow movepool in OU goes to... MAGNETON!!!"
Yes, Magneton's movepool is so shallow I have to run Supersonic, and a less than stellar Hidden Power. Not really much to improve, unless someone finds a Bad EGG glitch to alter IVs Kappa.

So any opinions?

Would be MUCH better if you could get Swampert which is much better than Sharpedo overall (can use Curse, Substitute + Focus Punch, Surf, Ice Beam, Earthquake, Counter/Mirror Coat)

I would use on Sceptile Leaf Blade, Thunderpunch, Crunch + Dragon Claw for a all-out attacker on the Special side. You can use aswell Brick Break to deal with special tanks weak to Fighting type (mostly for Chansey/Blissey and some other things).

Since this is no emulator, I can't simply hack Pokémon in, so think about limitations. I'm not about to breed new Pokémon too.

Also, watch with the battle points. I'm not flooding in them, so I have to be careful on what I spend for moves.

Avoiding frail pokes like Sharpedo and Camrupt are a must. Swampert is so good because it can take hits and fire back. Deff put a Latios or Latias set in there.

I think Harriyamma has a lot of potential. Sceptile with Aerial Ace is neat, but he/she is too frail to focus on full offense.

Let me make this clear:
IN GAME TEAM!
I'm not doing some serious "get 9001 wins in the battle frontier" crap. This is just for fun, and to get all Gold Symbols. I tried to pick Pokemon that worked well in-game and in actual battling, and I tried my best to get good natures on each Pokémon. I'm not going to go out of my way to get a Swampert from the battle frontier using a glitch move sketched by a wild smeargle and then caught Kappa!

Anyways, the thing with Camerupt is it isn't Frail, it just has a glaring 4x weakness to water types. Sceptile still has average attack, and aerial ace helps with the double team fuckers. Please, can someone give suggestions regarding the actual team?

My only advice is to make sure you take full advantage of Camerupts godsend of an ability and hatch some eggs while you're at the Frontier.

````
Srs now. The / means you can go with either move. It's personal preference.
Mixed Sceptile w/ Overgrow
Leaf Blade
Aerial Ace
Thunderpunch/Dragon Claw
Earthquake/Brick Break
EQ is better than shitty Brick Break imo. Thunderpunch is nice for fliers. Dragon Claw is okay too, however, idk how many dragons you'll actually be running into. If Sceptile can learn Ice Punch, give that to him instead. I don't think he gets it though. :[
````
Physical Hariyama w/ Guts:

Focus Punch/Cross Chop/Brick Break
Substitute/Fake Out

Rock Slide/Rock Tomb
Earthquake/Bulk Up/BELLY DRUM PogChamp

Sub Punch hype TriHard Make sure that if you run Belly Drum, you carry a Sitrus Berry or something.

Thick Fat is nice if you can get it, but Guts is pretty hype too. (No Flame Orb in Gen 3. BibleThump) You can breed a Makuhita with anyone in the Machop line to get Cross Chop if you're up for it. Machop learns it at lvl 40.

Your first set was good. Just not as hype as Sub Punch or Belly Drum. (Makuhita learns Belly Drum by leveling up but you might be able to get it from Move Tutor.) I'm not a fan of Fake Out, but if you like it then by all means run it. There isn't much else to use.
````
Mixed Camerupt w/ Magma Armor @ ScarfMadeOfSilk:
Flamethrower/Fire Blast
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Explosion
I don't like Camerupt. His defenses and typing suck, but this set you have is okay. I'm not sure if there's really a point in having Camerupt, since Hariyama can run a similar set though. (Aside from Flamethrower/Explosion.) Definitely run Silk Scarf for Explosion. Kappa b
````
Special Sharpedo w/ Rough Skin @ Mystic Water
Surf
Ice Beam
Crunch
Rain Dance/Agility/Return/Earthquake/Endure

I don't think Rough Skin is enough to warrant Endure, but Sharpedo doesn't have much to use so w/e.
````
Stall Skarmory w/ SturdyIfYouCanHelpIt @ Chesto Berry
Fly (AI is dumb)
Toxic
Protect
Rest
If you really want to stall, then this is fine. Just switch out against Steels.
````
Special Magneton w/ @ leftovurs/magnit":

Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Psychic Power/Substitute?
Thunder Wave
Supersonic

lol. I think you should use something else. You can replace Hidden Power with Substitute if you want. Get some Sub ParaFusion shenanigans going? I don't really know. Magneton sucks.

Lol I just realized that Eq is better (super effective against fire and poison Pokémon). ThunderPunch is also better, but 48 BP is a lot OpieOP. Maybe I'll cheat my way through the Arena by using a glitch move to change the battle type to a wild/double battle, and then catch the Pokémon to win so then I can farm enough battle points Kappa. (only works in Arena though)

Sitrus Berry sucks in Gen 3, only heals 30 HP opposed to 1/4 health in later gens. Cross Chop requires breeding, and no breeding plz.
The SubPunch set you have there is pretty good, but I just realized SubPunch sucks in the Palace (you can't choose your moves) and Arena (3 turn battle). I'll probably see how SubPunch Works

Lol doesn't matter because I have the sudden urge to run Swift because FUCK DOUBLE TEAM SwiftRage!

"Using physical moves with timid nature DansGame."
Why do you have a timid sharpedo in the first place. Anyways, trust me when I say Akiiru's suggestions are the best you're gonna get.

Because I forgot that a -Def/-SpDef nature won't really decrease shark's defense because its already shit. And why would I invest in attack when it has zero STAB options on a physical set? Also shark is frail, so it needs as much speed as possible.

Then again, I could have run swift for the DOUBLE TEAM FUCKERS SwiftRage!!!

Here's a question I have. With my Pokémon breeding skills I have acquired in Pokémon Emerald (perfect IVs + shiny), I was thinking of making a series in which I let people choose which three Pokémon I use for the Battle Tower and I try to get as far as I can. I will obviously record this and I'll probably do some commentary. Probably also cut out the boring parts, but we'll see.

Does that sound like a good idea? :P

This would be better off in the General Pokemon forum instead of here as it's irrelevant to the OP.
