While this isn't related to any of the real categories, for BirdJesus% (Pidgeot%), is it better to use Double-Edge or Swift?

Double-Edge takes a detour from the normal route, makes you fight two extra trainers and has recoil, but it's 100 base power. (considering how shallow Pidgeot's movepool is). Swift is a sucky 60 base power, but is a smaller detour from the route and has no optional trainer fights. (I'm getting swift either way)

Pidgeot also doesn't learn any other good normal move.

When I was routing this I was using Takedown + swift for most of the game. I delete swift after Silph when I get mimic.

How do you make a DSUM chart? I want to know how to make one for Blue Expless% (Level 5 spearow, Level 12 clefairy, dugtrio etc.) and charts for Yellow 151 (when it becomes a thing Kappa)

The easy way: use another DSUM chart already made for your game for similar encounter slots. A lot of desirable stuff (Abra for NoSC, high level Rattata for Raticate%, Clefairy for Clefable%, Viridian Forest Pikachus for Bingo, etc) are in the same or similar encounter slots. So take that chart, change the names of each encounter slot and then play around with it (test & see what actually happens) and change numbers until it seems accurate.

The "normal" way: Get a dsum program (e.g. https://github.com/samfin/dsum-manipulation by Mountebank ), (optionally) a LUA script to gather data from the route you want to manip on (I'll post my modified version of Mountebank's one "soon") and do the process from scratch. You'll end up with a step-based chart, which you can then fairly easily convert to time or bike steps as appropriate. If you don't want to bother gathering route-specific data you can use generic average values in the program, which will get you started but the result won't be as good, you'll probably have to adjust it manually like for the first method.

Also required note: DSUM for 1% slots *sucks*. You might come out with a chart that gets you them like 5% of the time, but don't expect miracles.

When using squirtle to run pokemon blue, what route changes are necessary to use body slam instead of mega kick, or to bypass blizzard?

Theunoriginalname posted body slam route inprovements here: http://wiki.pokemonspeedruns.com/index. ... id=4285%20 He later took them off, so you need to use the archive to find it.

For skipping Blizzard, you'd probably mega kick the gyarados's you would normally blizzard. I don't know if you x acc on lance for mega kick or use a combination of ice beam and mega kick to use mega kick only once.

I know that when stats are reduced, other stats are raised ex. or Loreli if you get growl turn 1, you don't need to x speed. What causes this and how do you tell what stats are raised?

This is called a badge boost. You can read about it here: http://wiki.pokemonspeedruns.com/index.php/Badge_Boosts.

Basically whenever your stats get modified, the game recalculates them accordingly and then adds an extra 9/8 boost to some of your stats depending on which gym badges you have obtained. After Brock you gain Attack every time this happens, After Surge you gain Defense, After Koga you gain Speed and after Blaine you gain Special. The boost is lost whenever you level up or finish a battle though.

Is there anywhere I can find a dsum chart for abra in pokemon red/blue? I know where to find the chart for yellow, but im not sure if the encounters vary in that route between yellow and red/blue. Im trying to route a Mr.Mime % run, and have not had any success learning how to create a chart.

are you trying to work out how many steps it's worth it to take to talk to a trainer? if so i believe the answer is 2 steps from your path when walking and 4 steps from your path on the bike.

you'll either have to make one yourself or ask someone to make one for you, as all the abra charts i know of require gengar up front and obviously you won't have that.

I don't run Red (yet), but after seeing many times how long the Farfetch'd trade takes, I've been looking into whether Diglett might be a viable backup for a Cut/Dig slave.

Diglett's Cave is not too far away from the SS Anne
Diglett's Cave has a very high rate of encounters, and Diglett is 95%
Diglett has the highest catch rate, meaning 33% with a yoloball (not sure if you could even weaken it)

55% chance to find a Diglett that does not know Dig (can't really hurt you)
40% chance to find one that already knows Dig (can skip teaching Dig for less menuing)
5% chance to find a Dugtrio (obviously bad and maybe run over if you can't catch it or flee)

Even if the Diglett has Dig and uses it on the first turn, you can throw two balls and have about a 5/9 chance to catch in those two.

I know both are bad options, but assuming you get one quickly and can catch it in one of the first two balls, would this be faster than the extremely slow trade for Dux, even though it's riskier?

dux only takes 55 seconds, there's no way taking a detour to catch something would be faster. it would also be a ton more inconsistent.

maybe if it went absolutely perfectly, and by that i mean getting one in the first ball that knows dig.

Decon, I looked into this, figured out that Diglett would be faster than Oddish and possibly Dux... and then discovered this:

That's interesting to know. I was always under the impression that Diglett could learn Cut in Gen 1, and apparently the information I found to confirm this was wrong. Thanks for pointing this out!

Yep, most places I looked online said it could, so I had that impression as well.

Then there was the time I routed Nidoking with Dig...

For future reference, Veekun is a good source for this kind of thing. Diglett can learn Cut in Yellow, but not Red/Blue.

Just to be clear, I took it off because I wasn't sure they were good enough (ie I wasn't convinced that the level of testing that I did was good enough). If you're going to use those notes keep that in mind that they're not perfect. Use with caution.

If I really care enough I'll go back and see if I can find a way to make it faster than what I had come up with before

For WG skip (and for runs in general) what are the exact exp you have to grind in mt moon for lvl 3 and 4? I know 4 is 138, which is 2 69 exp zubats (lvl 9, right?), but for 3, is it 178? What would be the optimal kills assuming WG skip and not WG skip?

Level 3 Nidorans need 177 experience, which is too much to reliably get without Water Gun. So if you skip Water Gun with a Level 3, you should generally not fight encounters. If you get Water Gun, you should fight the Mt. Moon Hiker instead of getting the experience from encounters.

This guide has a lot of good info on Mt. Moon experience: http://wiki.pokemonspeedruns.com/index. ... ive/Any%25
