New RTA timing for PMD T/D/S

Post by Kobral » Tue Dec 16, 2014 6:40 pm

We decided in our Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Group (Skype) that we'd change the IGT timing into RTA. New timing starts when New Game is started, and ends when credits start (music change).

How it should look: http://puu.sh/dxefZ/6d3cd76ae0.flv

Does this allow saving and quitting, or do runs have to be no s+q?

Any reason it's RTA? Is the IGTimer inaccurate? Just asking out of curiosity.

Using IGT makes racing pretty annoying since races start about a minute in the run. You would have to close your console to not advance the IGT for races and that's stupid.
Another reason is that the other PMDs use real time and we wanted one timing for all games, and because everyone in the Skype group agreed it should be Real Time, we decided to use real time.
One more reason is that you can get stuck in Temporal Tower forever if you lose all your reviver seeds, and with saving you can avoid that problem (not in every case, but if you lose all due to bad luck).
And if we would use IGT, we wouldn't have an excuse anymore to ban emulator Kappa

well if you can use s+q, here's something interesting I found out.

If you turn off power in a dungeon, you lose the dungeon and all your items (except bows)
However, if you lose in a dungeon, AND turn off the power AFTER losing the dungeon, you go back to your previous save file.
note this doesn't count in "deep" dungeons (where you have a breakpoint in the middle), because you can simply s+q in the middle of the dungeon and you are brought to your last save regardless (as long as you save in the middle).

fretzi pls, look at gen 4 and 5 runs, some of them are emulator runs, so I guess we should ban those too Kappa

Meh, that's kind of slow/unclean to reset when you lose all your reviver seeds. It's probably better to hope for reviver seeds in dungeons/kecleon store, rather than resetting.

It also brings up the problem that DS consoles are now faster to reset than 3ds consoles, since turning off the power for ds models is faster than access the home menu with 3ds models, and re-opening the game. (but you could just not reset for the whole game)

You also gain levels each time you progress through the dungeon (so it's not an entirely failed attempt at the dungeon), and with the increased levels you can eventually fight your way through the dungeon.

Or you could just use Riolu+Vulpix and avoid the whole problem altogether.
