Help with Timer for Mudkip

Post by basbh » Fri Aug 19, 2016 6:46 pm

Hi all, I am new to speedrunning and I have tried for the past three days to get the perfect mudkip but I just can't. I have tried saving a state before the bag and re-loading it, but it still doesn't work. I am using this guide: http://www.speedrun.com/pkmnrubysapphire/guide/tjv3a.

The guide says set the timer to -58.6 seconds.
1) Where can I find a timer that can do negative time and decimal seconds? What timer do you guys personally use?
2) After doing a soft reset and starting the timer simultaneously, do you skip instantly through the initial cutscenes or wait them out?
3) On an emulator, what is the optimal way to get and use a save file with text speed as FAST, battle scene as OFF, and battle style as SET?

Sorry if some of this may seem redundant, I guess I am just looking for a more detailed explanation for these things. I am using a PC emulator, VisualBoyAdvance. Also I think I am having difficulty getting to 2:43:00 exactly, I think I am just a little bit early or late. Any tips with this would be highly appreciated, as I haven't even gotten past the first part of speedrunning and would like to move on and learn more (I know there is a lot).

Thank you in advance.

1) http://livesplit.github.io/, I think it automatically shows decimal places, but if not you can set it in the "Layout Options".
2) Doesn't matter, but you need to be on the new game selection when the timer hits zero.
3) Just have a save file loaded where you already had those options set.

to add onto this, it also says you have to pick boy, do you actually? I see exarion pick girl every time.

that guide is fairly outdated. we choose girl every time now, and probably would not take any of those kips. exarion has written some more updated notes: http://pastebin.com/FqTms93u
