Route 1 to 22 DSum

Post by Exarion » Wed May 20, 2015 11:03 pm

A few other runners and I have pieced together a rough DSum chart for Route 1 to 22: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Step-based instructions:
Standard: 11 out, 12 in, 10 out, 12 in
Any L3 Pidgey: 9 in, 5 out, search
L3 Pidgey (slot 1): 9 in, standard
L3 Rattata: 3 out, 12 in, standard
L2 Rattata: 8 out, 12 in, standard
L2 Pidgey: 10 out, 12 in, standard
L3 Pidgey (slot 6-7): 3 in, standard
L4 Rattata: 6 in, standard
L4 Pidgey: 7 in, standard
L5 Pidgey: 8 in, standard

If you get 2+ encounters on the way up to Viridian and one of them is a L3 Pidgey, you can usually tell whether it came from slot 1 or slot 6-7. However, if you get only 1, just use the "Any L3 Pidgey" DSum.

This is a work in progress, and the steps are not close to being fully optimized, but I believe it's currently more optimal than not doing DSum at all. You could argue that the variance with common slots is too large to make DSum worth it.

Since I don't know DSum nearly as well as some others in the community, I'll probably make a few tweaks based on my runs and then leave this here in case others want to improve it.

Gifvex's Bizhawk script helped me improve the DSum table and the resulting chart. Still not perfect, but close to as good as we can get with current knowledge.

Step-based instructions (revised):
Any L3 Pidgey: 8 in, 6 out, search
L3 Pidgey (slot 1): 10 in, 9 out, repeat 13/9/13/10
L3 Rattata: 2 out, repeat 14/9/14/8
L2 Rattata: 8 out, repeat 13/10/13/9
L2 Pidgey: 10 out, repeat 13/10/13/9
L3 Pidgey (slot 6-7): 3 in, 10 out, repeat 13/10/13/9
L4 Rattata: 5 in, 11 out, repeat 4/2/6/11
L4 Pidgey: 6 in, 11 out, repeat 4/2/6/11
L5 Pidgey: 6 in, 11 out, repeat 4/2/6/11

Calculations: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Note: Although turn frame walking has made step-based DSum obsolete, steps are still a good reference of time as you're doing turn frame walking. If you don't like step-based, just convert to time based by multiplying each step by 0.285 seconds (17 frames).

(Edit 1: Made chart more accurate. Might need to adjust multiplier from 11 to 11.3 to further improve accuracy.)
