Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

I used to feel a lot more strongly about this, but now I'm just kind of lukewarm in favor of RTA. If we do switch, I'm highly in favor of permitting save and quit. Feel free to accept my opinion with the same weight you'd give to anyone else who doesn't currently actually run anything in the series.

Re: Generation 1-6 Glitchless Relay Race Idea

Gen 5 is a little touchy for a race situation. Black doesn't have many runners, but White 2 has difficult (effectively luck-based) RNG manipulation.

That said, I'd consider coming out of Pokéretirement for something like this.

It just goes through. A mod can also submit runs on behalf of other users, and those just go through as well.

Re: Speedrun.com Transition Discussion

I went on the "streams" page for the leaderboards in general and it shows 2 streams, 1 is a wondertrade race on OR/AS between 4 people, which makes me question why the other 3 streamers taking part arn't also shown, and 1 is a Red runs stream. Now I go to the Red/Blue page specifically and click on...

Re: Looking for Speedrun.com Moderators

Vulajin I am applying for the position of moderator for Pokémon Black . I hold the WR in this game and have invested more total time into routing and running this game than every other runner combined. I am also applying for the position of moderator for Pokémon White 2 . I held the emu WR for this...

Re: Putting the leaderboards on speedrun.com

Given the glacial pace of improvement on this site, most likely caused by the admins being busy people with actual lives and speedrunning hobbies of their own, I think this wouldn't be a bad idea. I would like to recommend that individual games be given moderators who are connected with those games ...

Re: Black 2 Pokemon World Tournament Speedrun RTA

I want to guess that starting up with the same seed will get you a consistent dust cloud spawn, but I don't think anyone has tested it. Of course, testing will be confounded by the fact that there will be no obvious way to tell whether you hit the right timer0 or not (unless the hypothesis is correc...

Re: Timing

For the record, the loading time difference between 3DS models will probably also affect IGT (if it is all similar to how load times differ between DS models for gen 5), so I wouldn't count that as a reason to favor IGT particularly.

Re: Conquest shift to RTA timing

From what I suspect though, the IGT is accurate for both emulator vs console, whereas of course there is a difference for RTA. I suppose if an IGT is given, it can be sort of used for comparability? This whole IGT problem was the whole reason I chose not to pursue running this game SoonerLater In o...

Re: Conquest shift to RTA timing

For other DS games, in addition to the global stipulation that WR must be on console, we also separate the console and emulator leaderboards entirely. I would recommend that you do the same for Conquest.

Re: Colour Palettes for Pokemon Red/Blue

It's not a glitch and everyone has access to it unless you're playing on an actual, original Game Boy. Given that other official hardware permits this (including, but not limited to, GBC and GBP) I see no reason this should not be permitted.

Re: Can we have seperate leaderboards for Ruby?

I stand corrected. It's been too long since I last looked at the Sapphire leaderboard, at which time there were like 4 Sapphire times, and the Emerald leaderboard used to be similarly sparse. That said, I stand by the remainder of my post, and retract my last throwaway sentence, which was obviously ...

Re: Can we have seperate leaderboards for Ruby?

I will just register my opinion here that, independent of specific considerations about Ruby, I do not believe that separating any of the matched-pair games is a worthwhile idea. The concept of the paired games was always that you pick the one you want to play. They are not made as independent games...

Re: Is using DS faster than 3DS for gen 4 games? I think not

Interesting. I never was able to test gen 4 since I don't own any gen 4 carts, and if I had at the time I would have found that 3DS was slower than emulator (since we know emu is always faster) and probably assumed it behaved the same way. I did a [very] little bit of research and it seems like the ...

Re: Emulators that must be banned

No$GBA should be banned for DS runs, period. DeSmuME is permissible, but we've already separated the DS leaderboards console vs emulator, and we should be clear that emulator runs are categorized separately for DS Pokemon games.

Re: New Twitch Addition: Hosting

The most damning aspect of hosting is that the stream doing the hosting does not appear as online. For each game of the marathon, your marathon is at the mercy of the respective runner for discovery in the Twitch directory. You can't be featured on the front page, since you're not actually online an...

Let me throw this out there. If the runner is not already part of the community, doesn't intend to join the community (for example, by streaming runs or doing more offline runs and uploading those, WRs or not), and just intends to throw their time on the leaderboard and then leave...then why do we n...

Re: Pauses during runs.

Pausing the timer is not allowed in RTAs, but we are not specifically doing RTAs, since we are timing by in-game time. Pausing the emulator is certainly not allowed - if you have to step away, you just leave it running and resume the run normally when you return. In the end, you may have gained some...

before i started running in the community i never would have thought that a WR run could be recorded offstream, claimed, while no one bats an eyelash. A run recorded offline and uploaded to Youtube is no more capable of being faked than a run streamed live with facecam. It's easily possible to repl...

If you were intending to start a more general discussion of emulators across console types, this would be the pl...
