Real Time to be used for all Pokemon speedruns on leaderboards

The news many of you have been waiting for has arrived. As of this post, all Pokemon runs on leaderboards are to be timed with Real Time. This is obviously a big change as previously glitchless runs have used the In Game Timer, but this will no longer be the case. Why? Well, a number of reasons have...

Re: Moving Forward With RTA: Timing Methods

Repeating myself to a few here I'm sure but I am highly, highly highly opposed to any method that starts timer during or after an intro sequence. Going through the whole process of switching to RTA to time the runs "properly" and then....not timing the runs properly just to try and make it ~easier~ ...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

Friendly reminder that S+Q and SS -is- split up for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon R/B now. Friendly reminder they switched -to- IGT for future titles so that they could allow pausing the game (and IGT) to go eat food, then brought back RTA but still allow pausing your timer in the middle of the run. Never...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

I was thinking about that and wondered: Why would we count time doing RNG manipulation at the intro screen and not time doing RNG manipulation in the main console menu (like setting the clock)? Because setting the clock is about setting the parameters to play the game, rather than actually doing so...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

Yes, the point I was actually making Garf is that the Credits SHOULD count, and therefore should NOT be counted for in timing of previous runs. Because they count, everyone would reset through them, only reason they weren't is because they previously didn't, and shouldn't be penalised because that w...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

I really didn't want to post here after reading this thread and seeing a whole bunch of "I like this, so it's objectively better", but I thought I may as well anyway. For reference, my stance is entirely neutral on the whole thing. I don't give a shit either way, and have always preferred IGT becaus...

Decision: New Ruling on Instant Text

First off, thanks to everyone who has participated in these discussions, for something that could've been very dividing it went quite smoothly. I'm glad the bitchiness was kept to a minimum. When Instant Text was first discovered, it was the staffs decision to remain impartial and let the people run...

Re: Poll: Revisiting Instant Text Ruling for Any% Glitchless

I would like to start by saying crafted has the best post in this thread by some margin. I would also like to stress that this post is a reflection of me as an individual, and not a staff member (until the very last line) There is no difference between the method used to gain Instant Text speed and ...

Re: Poll: Revisiting Instant Text Ruling for Any% Glitchless

I think lots of peoples answers will boil down to one argument or another. And there are lots you could focus on; "What is a glitch" "How should we decide our rules" "Is this fun?" "Is this centralising?" etc etc. The former is probably the most important in my opinion, but we could all argue semant...

Poll: Revisiting Instant Text Ruling for Any% Glitchless

I've been kind of catching up on the discussion about Instant Text. The feeling I'm getting, and what I'm being told, is that a large number of the people that run (or would run) the game, either think it should be banned, or just straight out don't like it, and additionally think the decision to al...

Re: Speedrun.com leaderboard changes

Really firm no here to the other misc categories. People can run whatever they want but there has to be some sort of line about what gets added to the leaderboards, and none of those categories hit a high enough calling to warrant consideration. Less is definitely more when it comes to categories on...

Re: Clarity on criteria for determining official categories

1) Hard mode as a seperate category is pretty obvious to go in, threw this question to gen 5 & admin groups, no one spoke up against it 2) ...this has to be a joke, ofc "Beat the game" is a category. Just cause yall are too scared to run it doesn't make it not legitimate 3 & 4) This is literally don...

Re: Clarity on criteria for determining official categories

The point is to have something to more assuredly invalidate the masturbatory 'because werster/SDA made it so' I just find this really funny given I go on and on about how much I fucking hate 151 and think it is the most arbitrary piece of trash lol. Other than that, this just really isn't needed fo...

Re: Bike Shop Instant Text Discussion/Ruling

I think the comparison with extra badge boosts is more useful than the comparison with pokedoll (even though the method of execution is closer to pokedoll). The extra badge boosts have a prolonged effect that affects every aspect of the battle until something resets it. Badge boosts: * Triggers whe...

Re: Bike Shop Instant Text Discussion/Ruling

Honestly, I don't really care either way. But just because so far people are posted why this should be allowed, I'm just going to give my process as to why it would go the other way, to me anyway. Things like digging out of places are an absolute no brainer to me, it baffles me that people bring thi...

Re: Move Switching

Actually, I think yours is better if you skip the second part of Move 3. Mud shot being in slot 4 is not a big deal, especially since it's used a lot in conjunction with Strength (Mud Shot, then Strength) when it is used. And if you do keep Rock Tomb, dive goes in Slot 2, which is better also edit: ...

Re: Move Switching

Close to what I was thinking. I was along the lines of 1/2, same as you. Move 3: Water Gun with Mud Shot, Tackle with Rock Tomb, in Hiker after Wattson (WG/Surf, Tackle/Strength, MS, RT) Saves one switch, so roughly 30f, but Strength taught into slot 2 (16) and used from slot 2 against Rose (10), so...

Re: Move Switching

Personally, I find the difference between selecting a Slot 2/3 vs 4 almost negligible. The main difference comes from not being able to Mash A vs moving to make sure the directional input applies in between the two. This is a point that I believe is exaggerated even more on move teaching. Removing s...

Re: Why the current TCG leaderboards make no sense

Since nothing was happening with this I took it upon myself to make the changes

Runs are now timed by real time. A variable is added for SS runs vs S+Q runs.
A variable is also added for runs without using th tutorial, but it is noted they don't count for "WR"

Re: Persim Berry-less route

Exarion: Yeah you're right, Heal Powder takes a lot longer than I thought, I didn't account for the fact you have to choose the Pokemon with an item, rather than a Battle Item just being used. So about 7 seconds seems right there. Maybe combine that with one of Glacia/Drake and play it by ear? Given...
