Pokemon Weekly Puzzle Challenge! Task #2

It's Sunday, you know what that means! For this challenge the official deadline will be Next Sunday the 6th at 11:59 PM EST, as I was too busy today to post this earlier! As with every week the top 5 times will appear in a highlight video (I am currently working on week 1's) and all times will appea...

Pokemon Weekly Puzzle Challenge! Task #1

This will be a trial for a new weekly competition I'm looking to get started, in which participants will be given a task on Saturday and will have until the following Saturday to record a run completing the task, and send me a link to the run (via twitter, discord, or twitch message). For this chall...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

If we have both RTA and IGT on the leaderboards runs with S+Q will have a large IGT advantage (not that that really matters if we judge based on RTA). It would be silly to time RTA and not allow S+Q imo, so showing both on the leaderboards may look silly.

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)

Pasted from my discord pastebin: Switching to RTA would cause many previously set times to be comparatively worse. Naming the rival "U" for example doesn't cost any time in IGT, but it would cost a second or so in RTA. It would also be very inconvenient to make the switch. We would have to go back a...

Reworked the Krazy route to save about ~30 seconds.

Here's the new route: http://pastebin.com/gtLjRS54

and here's the 33:37 I got with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnEXLkWzMGQ

Pokemon Red/Blue Catch 'em All No Restrictions

* Timing is by RTA, where timer starts at New Game and ends when screen fades to white after Hall of Fame in game time is shown. * Runs must be done on English version. * Save Corruption is not allowed. * Glitches that allow you to directly change Pokédex flags are not allowed. * Other glitches (tra...

Re: Revisiting oobLG

After discussing with the community via discord, it would appear that the unanimous consensus is to have a category split. The main category being "Catch 'em All" and banning LGFly, oobLG, and cooltrainer. A second category of "Catch 'em All no restrictions" will also be added (for the forums leader...

Re: Revisiting oobLG

Now for my opinion. I began speedruns of this category in October 2013. I fell in love with a category that was so diverse, each run was different, and you were forced to do major rerouting on the fly. When DSUM was discovered the route became a pleasure to run. There was so much improvisation invol...

Revisiting oobLG

After speaking with other runners, trying the glitch for myself, watching runs using the glitch, and quantifying the number of pokemon that are obtained via "____LG" methods I believe it is finally time to discuss the legality of the LG variant glitches and their use in the Catch 'em All speedruns. ...

Re: Decision: New Ruling on Instant Text

Very fair decision, but I'm wondering why the IT route is made MISC. I agree with the entirety of this, the wording on the categories is perfect, but I am confused why one category is MISC. The new category being created here isn't the "No Major Glitches" category, its the Any% Glitchless category s...

Re: Poll: Revisiting Instant Text Ruling for Any% Glitchless

I feel like most runners are in favor of a split leaderboard for something along the lines of Glitchless (no IT) and Glitchless (with IT). However I find it somewhat silly to have 2 leaderboards with nearly identical times as main series runs. One way I thought to keep the leaderboard as clean as it...

Re: Poll: Revisiting Instant Text Ruling for Any% Glitchless

There is no difference between the method used to gain Instant Text speed and many of the other borderline glitches that we use in the glitchless route (Pokedoll Skip, Dsum, Badge Boost Abuse , ect). It irks me greatly when people bring up badge boosts. Like what even is your argument? They should ...

Re: Poll: Revisiting Instant Text Ruling for Any% Glitchless

To begin, I am 100% under the opinion that IT is not a glitch. There is no difference between the method used to gain Instant Text speed and many of the other borderline glitches that we use in the glitchless route (Pokedoll Skip, Dsum, Badge Boost Abuse, ect). I think the issue here is that a lot o...

Re: Pokemon Yellow 128 Pokemon: Glitchless Notes (Max%)

I'll probably sit down and look this over/route it myself at some point. Generally you want to do all grinding later in the game (both catching and leveling). For example beating an entire trainer early game with charmander will get you about 500-1000 exp, and take 3-4 extra turns. Beating lorelai w...

Re: Leaderboards (Romhacks/Other Categories)

This is a pretty much exactly how I feel Tyrant. I feel like if a category meets a major goal, then it could be discussed by the community to be added to the leaderboards. The only major issue would be Leaderboard clutter (We could argue that there are multiple runners for various silly gen 1 catego...

Yeah Yellow 151 is really the main issue. The other categories I feel we could add as they become more popular (though adding them may help to drive competition)

Speedrun.com leaderboard changes

I would like to propose a few changes to the Gen 1 Leaderboards. For Pokemon Yellow: Yellow 151 should be moved to a main category (I have no idea why it hasn't been moved already) For Blue: Add 150 coop Glitchless to Misc, and possibly 124 Glitchless to Misc. (people have been becoming interested i...

Re: Bike Shop Instant Text Discussion/Ruling

I think we as a community need to define what is a glitch and what is "Glitchless" We allow things like Badge Boosts, Fast Menuing Techniques, Using repels while a repel is currently active (removed in later gens) and Redbar Skips that are all clearly not developer intended, but would be hard or imp...

is badge boosting a glitch because it doesnt exit in later gens? should every run you get hit by string shot be forced to reset?
