Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)
I fundamentally disagree (with Werster/Keizaron - there will be others I disagree with but they don't have as much power to make big decisions) on what we want from decisions like where to start the timer if we switch to RTA. The thing is - whether RTA is started from start-up, New Game, character c...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)
sitting through the credits gives you a different RNG value for trash can manip, which therefore has an impact on the game, which by your own argument should therefore be included in the timing. But you immediately reset to get trash can manip, so I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say her...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)
First off; obviously Gen 2 should not have credits (anyone who thinks otherwise is actually a complete moron), and that time should be taken off old runs that sat through them. Every game that has any function that has any impact on the game must be timed from when that function starts. E.g, Gen 4/...

Re: Revisiting Timing Methods for Pokemon Speedruns (IGT vs RTA)
At the start of this debate on the Discord channel, I was apathetic about using game time or real time. Regardless of the timing method used, I would not speedrun any differently. For the games I run, the only thing that concerns me is that runs that previously strived for the lowest possible IGT mi...

Re: Pokemon OR/AS Round 2 Routing
Since Rayquaza is a required capture, its catch rate was bumped up to 45, so you could probably get away with using one Ice Beam from Kyogre and chucking Dusk Balls.

It doesn't work. The Camper and Picknicker are two separate trainers, fought as two single battles.

Re: Is there a way to mani disobedience?
Manipulating battles in any way is impractical in real-time, particularly in Pearl where the battle RNG advances every frame.

Uh, but you can only get Lv. 10 Clefairy on the bottom floor, right? Are you proposing to go back to the top floor when you've done that to fight a Lv. 6 Zubat and the Hiker?

Re: RNG Manipulation Help
Alright. So I have tried over 100 times today to hit my seed(the one for Piplup route), and I haven't hit it once. Can anyone give me some tips. I am using Eon Timer, and I have everyone thing set up right, but I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I have tried starting the Eon Timer .6 seconds ...

Please, the only reason you're interested is because this strat involves a Masquerain winning a battleAmoeba wrote:New strats are always interesting, in any run. Geosenge deathwarp
I talked about this a little on Twitter, but I've done a little more testing since then. When you go to Route 10 before getting the 2nd badge, you can go all the way to Geosenge Town, but your way to Route 11 is blocked. Once you've beaten Grant, Team Flare Grunts appear on Route 10, two of whom are...

Re: Emerald Tips and Tricks
Teach Rock Tomb in the Escape Rope menu in Granite Cave. This leaves the menu on the TM bag, and the next time you use your bag will be when you sell the Steel Wing TM in Slateport (provided you don't heal in the museum fights). Saves a couple of inputs over teaching it in Route 116. Using the Esca...

I went through my notes again, and was shocked to discover how unclear and inaccurate a lot of the battle information was! I'm not sure how I ever did runs with the info I had

Re: Spinners in Sinnoh
Dang, a shame that the running trick isn't guaranteed. Still worth doing for the trainers it does affect (probably not when you have the option to use the bike, though - your reaction time should be fast enough to get past the spinner within the 32-frame window in 3rd gear). So in Pearl, that leaves...

Spinners in Sinnoh
With all the cool stuff being discovered in gen 3 regarding spinners, I thought I'd have a little look to see what I could find in Sinnoh. Assuming you're not running towards them or anything, it looks like spinners have some chance of turning every 32 frames. I don't know if there's an upper limit ...

Gen 5 RNG manipulation tutorial for speedrunning
I made a video tutorial for RNG manipulation in gen 5. It's long, but I really wanted to go through everything I could think of relating to this topic. You can find the tutorial here: https://youtu.be/4HowdCSEnWU

Re: Simple Questions & Answers
I don't have much experience with the Battle Frontier, but don't you need Machoke to know Mimic or Metronome in order to use the Rage glitch? The only way you could achieve that would be by transferring from a gen 3 game, which would not be allowed in a speedrun.

Re: RNG Manipulation Help
You haven't hit "your seed". Your seed is 4 1 0214BD, and the seed you've been hitting is 4 2 0214BD. The timing will be slightly different when you load up a save file, which is the more common scenario for those using EonTimer. When you follow EonTimer's suggested number of seconds before booting ...

Re: RNG Manipulation Help
Try pressing Start on EonTimer slightly after you set the time on your console. When I used EonTimer for Pearl, I had decent success with starting EonTimer roughly 0.6 seconds after I set the time.

Hey Veedrock, welcome to the community! Re: Speedrun.com Transition Discussion
Let me lay out exactly what RNG manipulation does for PMD Red/Blue runs so that people can make an informed judgment on the issue without jumping down each others' throats. If you quicksave next to the stairs on the first floor of any dungeon, then quicksave and hard reset, the remaining floors of t...
